Making Boxer Shorts + Reusing an old sheet to make boxer shorts pattern !

These are the cotton boxer shorts I made for myself on Sunday night !
After getting into my very very disorganized sewing room on Sunday I gave it a good declutter and clean up ..its looking pretty good today, I'm very impressed ..Just wish I could keep it looking like this..I never put things away after I either sew or craft ..tip to myself clean up after each project ..not always possible but I will try to do better...Any way after wards I decided to sew my self some boxer shorts which I wear for pj bottoms, even in winter to bed...and a reward for all my hard work..they are so quick and simple to make and probably only need about half a metre of fabric, must check next time I make another pair...depending on your size of course..Boxers also make great gifts for all the males and females in your life...I've also made them in the past for my 3 sons.....and a friend hubby for his birthday..Also I have and old torn and worn out cotton sheet that I used to make a pattern for the boxers..and it will be used to make other patterns too...If any one is interested in making boxer shorts please let me know and I'll do a tutorial .. Another great way to recycle can see some of my sewing room ..looks nice and clean and my table free of I can actually use it again...

Cinnamon Sugar Mix ...Using Organic Coconut Sugar !

I have been making cinnamon sugar for many many years !
But today I made it using organic cinnamon and organic coconut sugar...
I made it up in a jar ..I used 1 cup of organic sugar and 1/4 cup organic cinnamon and just shook it really well to mix it up ...And I made a label as you can see from photo above...So many uses will be great sprinkled over pancakes, toast, apple crumble, stewed apple, muesli, sprinkled over yoghurt or kefir... even add some to smoothies if a little more sweetness is needed..We love making banana kefir cinnamon smoothies they are so delicious.. in a blender I throw a few peeled bananas, milk kefir and some water and a teaspoon of cinnamon and blend up ..very delicious...

Making Pj's Last Longer..Lengthening The Legs !

Lengthening Jack's pajama  bottoms !
At the beginning of winter Jack said his pj's were to short, so rather then go buy news ones when there is still plenty of life still left in these ones. I decided to just lengthen them with some blue cotton fabric I had in my sewing room, that was left over from another project many years ago...very quick and easy to do, it took me less then half and hour..So he should get a few more winters wear out of them...before they end up in the rag bag..

 Step 1
I unpicked the current hem, then I cut two pieces of the blue fabric to fit the width of the legs and a little extra for the seam down the side and joined it together as you can see in above photo. It's double thickness but you could join it the other way and have just single thickness and just hem the bottom of the blue fabric ..either way just as good..
Step 2
Once that was done I folded the fabric back onto itself and folded the top edge over and sewing it around the cover the seam ..all done it made the pj's bottoms almost another 4 inches longer..If you have boys you will know they grow upwards before they fill out that much so pants are always getting to short and yet still fit them in the waist..I have another pair to do as well hope he wont need any more pj's for a few season yet...saves money and stuff going to landfill. So often we just race out and get new ones with out really thinking ..well not this time ..and they are only pj's so he only wears them to how flash do they need to be as long as they keep him warm, which they do we are both happy ...
Note: You could also add some extra fabric to the end of the sleeves if they are to short by using the same process..but I checked Jack's and they were fine..maybe something to consider next year and they still fit every where else and haven't worn out...

Hemming Jeans...............So they don't look like they've been hemmed !

Hemming Jeans-So they don't look like they've been hemmed !
A few months back Kev bought himself some new jeans, well 5 pairs to be exact, well he bought 3 pairs and as they were such a good price, I said why don't you buy 2 more pairs which he did...and they look really good on him, they make his butt look sexy too...I know he gets my latest blog posts in his email, so I know if he reads them and see if he comments on his butt looking sexy in the jeans I have told him but not every any one else...well not until
So that will teach me, I had 5 pairs of jeans to hem ...Kev is such a shortie.. nearly all his jeans need hemming...I'm such a lucky
I did a google on hemming jeans, I new the look I wanted but couldn't find anything ..the only ones I found were if they were only a little bit to long but as you can see in the above photo, they are way way to long so a little tuck wasn't going to be an option with these jeans ...I'm still chuffed with myself every time he wears them and having 5 pairs and its winter here in Oz..I'm chuffed most days, so that cheers me up ...
Tip number one always wash your jeans first as they will often shrink especially if 100% cotton...and these are... nothing worse then jeans half way up your leg, "slight exaggeration" but  not a good look...hehehe
The photo below is how I cut them before sewing ...
first I got Kev to put them on so I could measure and pin where they needed to be cut...
remember the saying  "measure twice cut once" ...
Then all you need to do is take out the middle piece and join the original hemmed bottom piece to the jeans...that sounds easy doesn't it ...and believe me it really you put right sides together and join them as close to original stitching of the original in the photo below...
so you need to sew as close to the original edge as you can and you can neaten the edge with a zig zag stitch..I don't recommend using your over-locker for this job as the seams are way to thick and you will probably end up with a few broken sewing needles...take it from me ..that's what I'll be
zig zaging them all in future..

This is how it will look can you see the sewing really close to the inner edge..and this pair I used the zig zag  the more broken sewing needles they cost to much to replace..

Here is the finished hem no need to iron just finger press them flat how easy was that ..really really easy ...happy hemming every one ...
